Does anyone have a good technique for handling situations where new vinyl is going to be bumped out by fan fold insul and will be wider than the rake trim. The roofing Co. Fabricated the rake edge and eve trim to cover the 2X8's plus decking entirely. I'm just a bit concerned that 1. This rake overhang will interfere with gutter installation.

Metal Rake Trim from Boral Roofing is an easy to install, finished rake trim that helps prevent anything from getting under the roof system. Provides a finished appearance to the rake line Helps to prevent the migration of debris and vermin under the roof system.

  1. Gable Trim designed to finish off the edge of the roof (gable or rake). Striations and bends on the flashing provide strength and match the lines of your other edge trims. The Gable Trim combined with sealant provides a watertight seal for your roof system.
  2. Eave to Rake Wall Flashing. One of the most troublesome areas of the roof is the Eave to Rake Wall Flashing intersection. However, the problems in this area can be greatly reduced if some guidelines are followed. Below are Guidelines for Flashing the wall before installing any type of Sloped-Roofing Material at Eave to Rake Wall Intersections.
  3. Valley Trim Install valley trim in any valleys. Begin at the eave; lap over eave trim and work upward. Mighti-Rib Panels Install panels, overlapping eave and valley trim. Do not fasten down panels along the ridge, if ridge trim is to be overlapped by the panels. Hip Trim Install hip trim over panel edges at each hip.

I am part of a student group that is building a garden shed for a community garden project. The garden project hired an architect who drew up plans, which called for a lean-to style roof standing seam metal roofing on top. We were given the plans, and among other things we went to a metal roofing wholesaler who took a look at the plans and drew us up a quote for the metal roof. He insisted that the quote included everything we needed to install the roof, excluding ice and water shield which we purchased from another supplier. This is the roof system we bought. It came with 16 16' panels that are 12' 2' long, four drip edges 12' long, and a box of pan head screws, 1'.

The problem is, looking at the instructions, this doesn't seem to be quite sufficient. The instructions call for installing a cleat, Z closure, and rake trim on each side to secure the panels, but we were sold none of that. We understand how to install the 2 drip edges on the low side, but:

  • A) We aren't sure where the other two drip edges go. If we put them on the high side eave, then the panels aren't quite long enough to fold over both high side and low side eaves. Our other thought was to put them on the sloped sides and fold the edges of the panels over them to secure them, since we don't have the cleats and such that the installation guide recommends.

  • B) How do we start and terminate the panels since we don't have the cleat or anything? Can we just fold them over the edge of the roof decking and screw them underneath?

  • C) Where all should we caulk? The manual doesn't specify where exactly, it just says it needs to be done.

  • D) Do these panels need to be hand seamed as well? They are snap lock panels, and the manual doesn't say to hand seam them specifically, but it also says that a hand seamer is a required tool for installation.

Thanks for any help in advance. Here are the roof details so some of this will make more sense:

How To Install Gable Trim

  • The roof is being installed over 5/8' decking, with Grace Ice and Water shield underneath the panels.

  • The deck area is 12' up the slope and 21' - 1 1/2 ' wide.

  • Underneath the decking are 2x4 purlins, that extend to within 6' of the top and bottom edge of the decking, and within 3 1/4' on the sloped sides.

  • The panels are 12' 2' long, and the drip edge adds an extra inch to the decking.

  • The total width of all of the panels is 21' 4', or 2 1/2' inches longer than the decking itself
