Iver Johnson M1 Carbine Serial Numbers
I was always under the impression it was a Universal carbine, but I tore it down tonight and noticed it is actually an Iver Johnson. Serial number is 472370. Does anyone know what parts are USGI compatible or what year the carbine was made? When tearing it down I discovered the rearward part of the bolt has broken off which is probably why the rifle fails to return to battery after firing one round. You can see where the bolt is broken in the pictures.
I would really like to get this rifle running 100% and use it for a truck gun. Obviously, I will need a new bolt, but what other parts, if any, should I replace? Will any USGI bolt work? I would prefer to purchase an entirely new complete bolt assembly rather than just the bolt and have to replace the tiny parts in it. Anyone know where I can locate the correct one for my rifle? And yes, I know it will need to be headspaced.
