Shakuntala is an Indian television series that premiered on 2 February 2009 and aired until 6 July 2009. En route, Shakuntala's signet-ring accidentally drops into the river and gets lost. When Shakuntala presents herself before the king, Dushyant, under the spell of the curse, fails to acknowledge her as his wife. Sakuntala is thrown out of the palace, and her adopted father Kanva abandons her. Sometime later a fisherman discovers the king's ring in the belly of a fish. The fisherman returns the ring to the palace, and when Dushyanta sees it, his memory of Sakuntala returns. Shakuntala, the woman wronged; is the story of sage Vishwamitra and apsara Menaka’s only daughter. In Mahabhrata, Vyasa depicted this character as a strong and determined one; just like her father. But later Kalidasa in his brilliant creation “AbhijnanaShakuntalam”; presented her as a lovelorn girl, just like her mother. So, which among the two is.

Shakuntala is an Indian television series that premiered on 2 February 2009 and aired until 6 July 2009. The show was based on characters in Hinduism where Shakuntala (Sanskrit: शकुन्तला, Śakuntalā) is the wife of Dushyanta and the mother of Emperor Bharata. Her story is told in the Mahabharata and dramatized by Kalidasa in his play Abhijñānaśākuntala(The Sign of Shakuntala).

Plot[edit]

The story is a fairy tale about a baby who was found by the Sage Kanva who gives her refuge in his ashram and raises her like his own daughter. Shakuntala grows up to be a breathtaking beauty (known to be as beautiful as a goddess).

She meets King Dushyanta who is completely smitten. He approaches her, wins her heart and gives her his Royal seal, his Ring.

Circumstances separate Shakuntala from King Dushyant, and she pines for her love to return.
