So this is why you MUST record your serial numbers so if someone does manage to steal a firearm, you can report it and maybe get it back IF it is ever found.
Im in that boat now. My neice who was living with us took two of mine while I was out of town working. Traded them off. I didnt find out it was her until a month after I reported it to the police. WITH model numbers, descriptions and serial numbers. Tennis show print gave her up. She's sitting in lockup since Memorial day and we still dont have the people she gave them too. Im still hoping but they may be long gone by now. Lake bottom or something. She's a juvenile, and first time in the system so they are reducing it from two class c felonies to one misdemeanor.
Im a little bent out of shape over it all (okay, a lot), but still hoping she gets the message and turns her life around. Coming to live with us was supposed to help with that in the first place.

A serial number is printed on the receiver of each Remington rifle or shotgun, provided it's a newer model. Serial numbers were not a requirement until 1968, so older firearms may not have serial numbers. Old remington shotguns serial numbers. Remington 700, 870 or 1100 serial/barrel number lookup will work with Remington 700, 870 or any other Remington shotgun or rifle. It will show you date of manufacture of your firearm. It is very easy to use, it uses information from the Remington company. Feb 11, 2016  Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer's rifle. Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random.
